The Hôtel de Cluny was built in 1485 to accomodate the abbots of Cluny during their stays in Paris. A true gem of Parisian Gothic architecture, this building now houses the Musée de Cluny, a great museum dedicated to medieval art.
During this tour, I will take you to explore the Frigidarium, the last remains of the famous Gallo-Roman baths, to immerse yourself in the history of the ancient city of Paris. You will also discover some statues from Notre-Dame Cathedral, and stained glass windows from the Sainte-Chapelle and the Basilica of Saint-Denis, which showcase the splendor of religious medieval art.
Finally, you will admire the iconic Tapestry of the "Lady and the Unicorn", a 15th-century masterpiece representing the Five Senses, with a mysterious sixth sense featuring a unicorn.
These exceptional pieces, along with other medieval treasures, provide a unique immersion into the historical and artistic heritage of medieval Paris.
Why do I love leading this tour?
"The Musée de Cluny is truly a hidden gem in Paris: it’s filled with so much history and art that I always discover something new every time I visit. This peaceful museum is also a remarkable example of a building that has evolved through time, from the 1st century until today."
