Learn all about French kings and queens!
Come to discover this little-known gem, just outside Paris!
Saint Denis Basilica was founded in the Middle Ages, on top of the tomb of Saint Denis. Over the centuries, it became a great gothic cathedral (brighter that Notre-Dame cathedral), but mostly, the necropolis where the French kings and queens are buried.
You will see there the funerary monuments of Kings Charles V, Francis Ist or Henri II, and learn all about their lives and stories.
With more than 70 different statues and tombs, Saint Denis Basilica is really one of the best places to learn about the French History, from the Middle Ages until the French Revolution.
Why do I love leading this tour to the "Basilique de Saint-Denis"?
"Saint Denis Basilica is definitely one of my favorite monuments around Paris: it is full of history. And I love the colored light of the stained glass windows reflecting on the tombs, as you can see on the picture below. Follow me on a private tour to see it by yourself and learn more about it."
Please choose the date and time you want for this tour, and fill in the form.
I will get back to you by email to send you a detailed quotation.
Saint Denis Basilica is closed on Sunday mornings and for special religious events.
The monument doesn't have a heating system, so in winter, I encourage you to wear warm clothes and shoes.
There are 15 steps to climb to access the crypt and the choir (with no elevator). Only some parts of the building are accessible in a wheelchair.
The Saint Denis Basilica is easy to reach from Paris: take metro line 13 (light blue) towards "Saint Denis Université" and go off at the stop "Basilique de Saint Denis". Then, the Basilica is just a few meters away. I can also organize a private driver to drive you directly from Paris.
